The VINE Consortium is a collective of researchers centered at the University of California, Santa Cruz, who are interested in innovative vocabulary research. It began when the Director, Dr. Judy Scott, became the Principal Investigator for a US Department of Education: Institute of Education Sciences National Center for Educational Research Reading and Writing Education Research Grant entitled, Vocabulary Development Through Writing: A Key to Academic Success in 2006With two additional IES grants, we developed a vocabulary assessment tool (VASE) and explored the integration of technology with vocabulary development (TecWave). Although these research projects have ended, we are dedicated to the support and continued development of theoretically driven and classroom-tested techniques that enhance the word learning of all children.
